Krista Cowl Moebius Class - Step into the world of Magical Knitting

Hot Springs own Diane Martini, lifelong knitter and knitwear designer for over 20 years will be leading a workshop on the ins and outs of Moebius knitting on May 5, at Hot Springs Fiber Co.

Have you ever heard of a Moebius?  It is a twisted cylinder with only one edge, and it is magically fun to knit!  Everyone will be amazed to see you knit this form from both ends at the same time!  It is also a great fit with hand dyed yarn.

This is NOT the same as what happens when we twist a circular cast-on, but never fear - we can show you how to fix that if it happens.

We will start with some history of the Moebius and how to make one, from Elizabeth Zimmerman’s method to Cat Bordhi’s Moebius cast-on.  Then we will all cast on and begin a moebius infinity scarf or cowl using the Krista Moebius Cowl pattern, which will be included with the class.  This pattern is very easy to adjust to different lengths and sizes, so we will spend a few minutes talking about gauge and changing the size of the cowl.

Supplies – You will need

  • Yarn: about 300 – 400 yards of light weight yarn – fingering to sport weight is great. We like Foggy Northern Lights for this one, and Tracie has plenty available for purchase!

  • A long circular knitting needle – not less than 36” and 48” is best, in an appropriate size for the yarn selected – generally US 4 – 6

  • One stitch marker.

  • Knitting notions – something to write with. You may wish to bring your knit kit, with stitch markers, tape measures, etc.

Class handouts will include the background information, some tips and tricks, and the pattern.
